The new 1999 f1 entry, BAT are rumoured to be 'after' Michael Schumacher to partner Jacques Villeneuve! This could lead to some exciting racing like that of Senna and Prost. BAT have the budget to afford Schumacher, but is it wise partnering him with Villeneuve???

19 February 1998

The Belgian GP will go ahead as planned. The local government near the circuit came to an agreement with the FIA. The race will take place on August 30th.

16 February 1998

As for the French GP, the French government should pass a law that will enable the French motor sport governing body to award exclusive television rights to one broadcaster. The French GP has been seriously threatened because of TV arguments, so this would then mean that the French race should then take place.

Benetton have followed in McLaren's footsteps and have switched to Bridgestone tyres for 1998!

10 February 1998

Ricardo Rosset has landed the second seat at Tyrrell. Team boss Steve Nielson said "Ricardo has a lot of driving talent, but he hasn't had the right circumstances to show what he can do in Formula 1."

8 February 1998

Craig Wilson has joined Williams from Tyrrell to be Frentzen's race engineer.

It looks like Zhuhai will be on the 1999 calendar. Bernie Ecclestone told the South China Morning Post that he is almost certain it will be on the calendar. (Chinese GP)

Kyalami is favourite to replace Portugal this year.

Shinji Nakano has landed a Minardi seat, after controversy that he wouldn't be returning to F1 after his disasterous 1997 season.

 

 

14 January 1998

Portugal's 1998 race at Estoril has been dropped by the FIA because necessary safety work has not been completed. Belgium's race at Spa-Francorchamps is also threatened with being dropped because of the European tobacco sponsorship laws.

19 November 1997

Goodyear have officially confirmed that they will withdraw from formula 1 at the end of the 1998 season.

McLaren have since made a switch from Goodyear to Bridgestone for the 1998 season.
